Here we go! Sir Reginald Trueheart joins the party and in less than 30 seconds, shit is already getting real.
I’d like to thank Randall Walker (aka @deadorcs on Twitter) for his council and invaluable help with selecting an old-school name for Sir Reginald. I love the naming conventions in D&D and the addition of honorifics just make me giddy. It’s something I think DMs and players forget about.
For those of you who may be wondering about Mel and her character, she’ll be there in a bit. She has a new character coming into the campaign.

YES! super excited to see where this goes.

Does detect evil just put a villainous mustache on all the cretins in the room?
I airways wanted it to work that way.

with different types of mustaches depending on how evil? The Boris Badenov for people/objects that are mildly evil, the Hitler for those people/things that are wholly evil? That would be awesome.
“Did you know your sword has a mustache?”
“OH NO WHICH LEVEL? *crosses fingers* Please be Boris, please be Boris, please be Boris….”
“It’s a Stalin!”
“NOOOOOOO!”

I figure Sir Reginald’s not exposing the rogue…so much as the invisible demon nearby?

I believe Sir Reginald is guaranteeing none of the party are evil, since he is bound by his oaths as a paladin to never associate with an evil person.

And paladins always make the game more….um….interesting for the rest of the party.

Of course everyone’s going to appear to be evil… They’re all DRINKING!!!

That prowes nothing. I know of a paladin who drinks, and enjoys beef jerky, and he’s still the most righteous guy in that group… Also the most naive…

I myself was just thinking, “And that’s why 4e did away with detect evil”.

A long time ago, at a college far, far away, a friend of mine was running a D&D campaign based on Diablo (hey look, this story is even relevant to current events!). The PCs were deep into one of the hell catacombs, when someone decided to cast Detect Evil. We had decided that Detect Evil makes everything evil in the area glow, with the brightness reflecting HOW evil the thing was.
So the DM ruled that the character was immediately struck blind.
Not the, ahem, brightest move ever.

Back to the table! Huzzah! Let’s hear it for the old-schoolers!

“Just a note, this comic jumps around between storylines a lot, a cast page would be really helpful, especially if it listed not only the cast but their most commonly played characters as well.”

I agree 100% and I am in the process of putting a cast page together as we speak. In Friday’s comic I will offer a cheat sheet. Cool?

“Sounds great. Definitely a helpful thing to have for a comic with so many story threads and characters.”

A couple of my players in various groups have added to title “Lord” to their name over time. I can’t lie – it adds something to the experience!
[Reply]
Hahaha. I had a fighter named Captain Bulwark the Stawart. Nothing like using defensive objects as names in good ol’ D&D.
Of course he carried a tower shield, too.

ah paladins! my favorite party was where i was constantly at odds with the group’s paladin. Course i was running my crazy shock and gross out character the necromancer/necropheliac. after the battle it was inevitable that i would end up saying “So…you guys going to use that?”
[Reply]
This looks promising. One day, I’ll play a Lawful Stupid paladin, hell-bent on saving the souls of the ‘lost and damned’ the party encounters.
How… how long has there been alt-text on the images?
